Deadline for Applications: Applications for The Timothy Begor Memorial Scholarship are due at the Saranac Lake High School by 3pm, Friday before spring break. All other applications are due to SLYAA eight weeks before your event, program, award, etc. occurs to allow our Board time to process your request. Applications are reviewed monthly from September through June. Applications received after June 5 may not be considered until September. Thank you.

The Annie Fund

The Saranac Lake Arts Association announces the establishment of The Annie Fund. The Annie Fund is named for Annie E. Reding. In her honor an allowance will be given yearly to promote, enhance, and encourage children in seventh grade or younger in the beauty and art of literature and writing.

Scholarships

These awards may be applied to fine or performing arts camps or institutes. Examples of scholarships that have been awarded include Crane Music Camp and the Adirondack Festival Children's Chorus. Apply for a scholarship if you want help to attend a special class, program, camp, institute or other educational course. Most scholarships are partial, not full, scholarships.  PRINTABLE FORM

Awards

Recognitions, usually in the form of a citation, plaque, etc. for excellence in the fine or performing arts. Awards may also be one-time-only monetary support for special projects. Examples of awards have been the Phoenix Literary Award, support for artist Carol Vossler's Piano Sculpture, a donation to the SLHS Band and Ensemble trip to Washington, DC, and the purchase of a baby grand piano for the new SLHS auditorium. Educational Programs

Examples of educational programs include the Adirondack Piano Institute, Deborah Cole Vocal Workshops, guest speakers for arts classes, and the Artists Mentor Program. Apply for support for an educational program if you need help paying instructors' honoraria, secretarial and custodial or other personnel fees, rentals of space, instruments, or equipment, office supplies, advertising, or housing fees. Special Events

The artistic event has a specific time and location. Admission may be charged. Examples of events sponsored in the past by SLYAA have included Baroque Concerts held during Winter Carnival, Saranac Lake High School Art Show Awards and Reception, Paul Smith's College Dinners for the Arts, performances by the Chamber Orchestra of Northern New York, a Jazz Evening with Fred Baker, Messiah Sing-In Holiday Concerts, Lake Placid Sinfonietta Concerts in Saranac Lake, etc. Apply for support for an event if you need fees for artists, money for space rental, refreshments, help with advertising the event, etc. PRINTABLE FORM

Timothy Begor Memorial Scholarship

Timothy Begor was not someone you would have noticed when he entered Saranac Lake High School as a freshman. But when he was diagnosed with cancer, everything changed. Tim turned to art and discovered an avenue for self-expression that was unlike anything he had known before. He became fully engaged, spending every spare moment in the art room. He worked hard and long and, because art has this special power, he bloomed. Tim's hand was the first up when volunteers were needed. Tim's circle of friends grew. His growing popularity reflected his own confidence and awareness. Artist Timothy Begor graduated from Saranac Lake High School in 1994 and died of cancer in 1996.

The Timothy Begor Memorial Scholarship is awarded annually, at the SLHS commencement, to a resident of the Saranac Lake Central School District who has completed high school graduation requirements this academic year and will be matriculating as a fine or performing art major in college.
